back to black

Published by Fence under Ramblings

Yes, I’ve gone back to the old theme. I’m not sure why. Couldn’t find a new one that I liked and I missed a header image with the last one. I may do a couple of header images over the next few days, then again I may not.

Decisive amn’t I?

I’m cat minding at the moment, so am watching the two kitties racing round the room pretending to kill each other, I guess they’ve settled in. They are rescue cats, and more than a little skitish and wary of new peoples. So its good that they are going a little crazy.

In other news, I’ve started watching season 1 of Rome, Himself has never seen it and so after Firefly and Serenity last month we’ve moved on. Yay. Cause there is very little worth watching on d’telly at the moment. Though Bones will be back soon.

DVDs, the saviour of telly-fans. :)

Speaking of the telly, there’s a show on the Beeb at the mo’; Dying for a Drink, about this fella who is giving up drink for a month or something. And he says that the only way he can do it is to avoid going out and being around other people who are drinking. Its all a bit much; I mean surely you can be around drunken fools and stay sober? I’ve done it and it can sometimes be a lot more fun, cause you remember how stupid they were and they’ve nothing on you.

Oh my gawd!

Published by Fence under TV

Do you know that I have watched no real telly so far this week. Okay, so I spent the long weekend watching nothing but House season one. But that was on dvd, so it doesn’t count. Apart from that I’ve watched the finale of this season’s Lost and the season finale of Bones and thats it.

And to be honest I was impressed by neither. Meh to both I say.

I did catch 5 seconds of Rome repeats on Discovery last night. I miss good telly :(

Even Medium is repeats now. I can tell, Alison has long long hair. le sigh Nothing to watch.

Hola Chica

Published by Fence under Ramblings

and how are we all? Been a while since the last proper post, and I don’t know if I’m back in the swing of things yet, but sure, what the hell. Felt like a post so here I am.

Let me see, what has been going on since last I made an appearance. Not very much at all to be honest. Work is kinda busy. Exam time is coming and the geese are getting fat… or the students are busy cramming, something like that.

Took a few days off and visited Rome. Which was nice.

Apart from that nada. Haven’t been reading all that much, and haven’t really seen anything fantabulous in the kino either. Well, In Bruges was great, but apart from that.

I’ve upgraded wordpress to the newest version, and I gotta say, I’m not totally sure about it. Tis very different. Maybe that is the problem. Too different, I gotta get used to it.

Agus sin é for the mo.

Rome 2.10 De Parte Vostro

Published by Fence under Moving Pictures, TV

Dir: John Maybury
Writ: Bruno Heller
The final episode. I’m going to miss Lamb and Chicken, and even scheming Caesar/Octavian, not to mention bitch-Atia and all the others. And Beeb watchers, let me tell you, Heroeswhile entertaining, is not even half as good as Rome.

Opiate of the masses

Published by Fence under TV

I seem to have given up on my Rome recaps. That is a terribly wishy-washy sort of statement, isn’t it? I seem to have, you’d think I’d know whether I have or I haven’t. And considering that there is only one episode left to go, you’d have to think that yes I have given up. I think so. But the mood may strike me again, and I may scribble something down, but I blame the BBC. Showing two episodes a week, while cool and keeping me happy with the Rome-ness of it all, means that there isn’t much time before another episode appears. It also means that the season is now pretty much over.

They are starting Heroes next week. If you haven’t seen it and have BBC2 you should probably switch on. Tis quite fun, though not as great or as original as it seems to think it is.

The Sopranos came to an end last night. I had watched it on Vera on my train journey home last weekend, but that ending made me unsure of whether I had it all or not. Turns out I had. I’m in two minds about the ending. I don’t the episode, as a whole, was as good as some others this season. But I quite liked Show Spoilers ▼

This final season as a whole has been most excellent, and I’m coming round to the idea Show Spoilers ▼

I don’t think that matters. It was a perfect ending for The Sopranos. I wouldn’t like everything to end that way. But it worked. More discussion here, with unhidden spoilers, you have been warned.

So that is Rome and The Sopranos coming to an end. And I’d been quite enjoying the few Doctor Who episodes I caught this year, but now they are over too. So many things coming to an end. I suppose Prison Break is still running, but I’m more than a little meh’d at that show. Tis too silly, and with the constant, never ending stabbing each other in the back it gets a little repetitive. Although whatshisface, teabag? Show Spoilers ▼

And on account of various things I’ve been missing Jekyll which I was enjoying. But then again, I can play catch up, the flatmate has two episodes recorded, so I can play catch up at some stage.

And I have a few boxsets I should get to watching; Carnivale, Twin Peaks, The Wire. Plenty to keep me going.

Yeah, so Marx may have been referring to religion, but I’m not the only one to apply it to telly too.

Rome 2.6 Philippi

Published by Fence under Moving Pictures, TV

Dir: Robert Young
Writ: Eoghan Mahony

We start off this episode with Brutus and Cassius riding along with their army. Brutus is in good form, he has been chatting with the men, but Cassius is a tad on the grumpy side, all these mouths to feed. Brutus tells him he has such an unromantic view of the army. They are marching to take on Caesar/Octavian, for the good of the republic[1] Continue Reading »

Rome 2.5 Heroes of the Republic

Published by Fence under Moving Pictures, TV

Dir: Alik Sakharov
Writ: Mere Smith

After the excitement of the last episode it seems that Timon has refound religion[1] as this episode begins with him and his brother praying at Temple. I do wonder will this last[2] But there isn’t too much time to think about this as soon we switch attention to Mark Anthony in the woods. With a beard. And a nasty, nasty beard it is too. So nasty we don’t really spend much time watching him gut the deer he’s been hunting. Instead we return to Lamb and Chicken, and the rescued children. Chicken suggests that they maybe shouldn’t return to the life of crime[3] and brutality, seeing as Anthony isn’t around and his orders really don’t stand. Lamb, of course, is steadfast in his duty and says that of course they will take up their old duties, keeping the peace through mafia-esque activities on the Avantine[4] While they discuss this, and meet up with some soldiers who fill in all the details about Caesar, we switch attention to the children in the back of the wagon. They are planning to run away, but must wait until they can make some money.

Linknotes:
  1. he must have had SOME religion in the first place so all I think that refound is accurate
  2. and indeed, what it will lead to. Nothing good and happy I’m betting
  3. he really has turned quite sensible
  4. order through chaos! peace through crime! etc
