I read the book this was based on a long time ago. So long ago that I don’t really remember the details. But I do remember thinking that it wasn’t the most film-friendly of novels when I heard that it was to be adapted. But of course neither was The Lord of the Rings and look how well Jackson et al did there. This, however, is a very different kettle of fish from LOTR
See also: IMDb ; Elsewhere Okay so I knew this was going to be rubbish. But then again look at that cast. How could I resist? And to be honest I was expecting something resembling a plot to show up somewhere. It never did. And without a plot it is pretty hard to have characters […]
Grizzled old veteran teaches impudent new pup how to be a rescue swimmer. And that is about it. But if that was all I said it’d make for a pretty short review, so I’ll just bullshit away here for a few minutes. The Guardian is a pretty crap version of Top Gun only instead of planes […]
Well I’m off home for christmas. Laden down with a rucksack full of presents and a “giant elephant bag” full of more presents. Hopefully they’ll all fit on the Luas and the train ;) I won’t be back in Dublin until around the 30th of Dec, and then am heading to Drogheda and NM’s for […]
- Just so you know, this film is called Hooligans, Green Street Hooligans and Green Street depending on where you are.
Football has never really had a good film made about it, not that I’ve seen anyway. I mean most people enjoy that Christmas favourite Escape to Victory, but despite having Pele, the football isn’t really that good. Is Green Street any better? Football-wise, I’d have to say yes. But this film isn’t really about football at all. It is about the West Ham firm, the GSE (Green Street Elite), and football fans’ violence and how this all appears to an outsider.
Opening with a scene of Blake stumbling and mumbling his way through the woods this film almost always looks great and interesting. Unfortunately it isn’t. It is a boring, one-note tale of a “rock and roll” cliche that never engages with the audience. Blake mutters and grunts to himself throughout the film, very rarely saying anything at all recognisable and the other characters seem to spend most of their time in bed.
ISBN: 0552552097Eragon is the story of a boy and his dragon, and his quest to save the world. In a way, I suppose, it is a usual fantasy story. It has the magic, the unimportant village child who turns out to be special, the older wise guide who also turns out to be more than […]
Do you know why I really hate labels, especially genre labels? Well it is because everyone has their own definition of what fits a certain label, and they are only aware of what they know. Yet this lack of knowledge doesn’t stop them from commenting on the rest of their genre, or their relation to […]
You know this is the sort of film that doesn’t really deserve a review. It is cliché-ridden, the dialogue is terrible, you’ll laugh in all the wrong places. But still, it is mindless entertainment that passes the time. Read more about Flight of the Phoenix …
After seeing the trailer for this film for what seems like years (I’m talking to you to bloody day after tomorrow trailer that just won’t go away), I figured I knew what to expect from this film; cg axn similar to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a couple of monsters and hopefully a bit of fun similar to what we got from the first Mummy film. But the more I saw the trailer the less impressed I was. Went into the film without much hope for a good film. Read more about Van Helsing …
The critics have been raving over this film. Don’t know why, I found it overlong, boring and more than a little predictable. Read more about Million Dollar Baby [based on book] …
