Is there a point to me doing a quick recap of a Godzilla movie plot? I mean, you all know that Godzilla means monsters and destruction, possibly Japan, and possible monster fights, right? That’s all there in the title. So what does this film add to the whole Godzilla mythology? Well, it does have Bryan […]
As a person who has never seen Tron I may be the wrong person to review this film. But then again, I’m sure I’m not alone, so here goes :)
Some twenty years ago Sam Flynn’s father went to work and never came home. Since then his company has gone from strength to strength, sometimes at the expense of Kevin Flynn’s original ideals. But Sam doesn’t want to be CEO of a company, instead he doesn’t seem to work, drops out of college, and adopts a rescue dog. Oh, and plays tricks on his own company like releasing their products onto the internet for free. But one day a page comes from Flynn’s Arcade. But the phone there has been disconnected for years. Sam goes to investigate and discovers that his father has discovered how to transport himself onto “the grid” and has been trapped there ever since.

Set in the Tang dynasty in the 10th Century, this film tells the tale of the Emperor Ping and his cold war with his wife, Empress Phoenix, as well as both of their attempts to influence the three princes. The eldest, Crown Prince Wan’s mother was the Emperor’s first wife, has been raised by Phoenix as well as her two sons. But the emperor is not happy with his wife. As her father is an important neighbouring king he cannot do away with her in the open and instead decides that as she is “sick” she needs to take her medicine. Medicine that he has formulated, and which includes a poison that will slowly cause damage and leave her nothing but a vegetable. Obviously she doesn’t want this to happen and so makes other plans.
Billed as Jet Li’s final martial arts epic, you should know to expect plenty of fight scenes in this film. But there is also a plot and a storyline too. One that revolves around the historical figure of Huo Yuanjia, a man who in his early life won great renown as a fighter and practitioner of wushu a skill he learned despite his father’s orders to the contrary.
I’m a big fan of Pitch Black, that low budget horror in space. And I used to be a big fan of Vin Diesel’s but recent film-roles have made me all a bit meh. Still, I’m surprised it took me this long to get around to watching this film, but I finally caved and got […]
It is hard to know how to describe this film, I suppose I could say that Sin City has three stories, each based on a different graphic novel by Miller. Or that it is just an experiment in style and how to make a film look original.
The film opens with soon-to-retire cop Hartigan (Willis) as he attempts to save 11 year old Nancy Callahan from rape and death. I’m guessing you’ve figured out it isn’t a fluffy-bunny film right? Because there is a hell of a lot of violence. In the main it is fairly cartoony, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have impact, and there are a few scenes that’ll make anyone wince.
If you’ve seen any trailers for this film you might be tempted to think of it as this year’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It isn’t. First of all it isn’t quite as good, but secondly the story is very different. Yes, both feature stunning martial arts displays, including fighting in tree-tops and across water, but […]
Before I had heard about this film I had never heard of the comics, never really heard of the character of Hellboy at all, so I wasn’t “mad fer it.” But, after hearing a few positive reviews I decided I’d have to check it out at some stage. Then the trailers put me off, did anyone else get them in blocks of three? And I know that most everyone has praised del Toro’s Blade II, personally I preferred the first. Ah well, the film was on at the right time so I popped along.

I was pleasantly surprised with this film. I presume most people know the story of Hulk, guy gets radiated, then finds out that when he gets angry he turns green & monster-like (or grey in the early comics). Well I wasn’t expecting much from this film, I was never a huge Hulk fan, and the […]
