Okay, do you remember when I “reviewed” The Isles of the sun and I said that I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on it? Well that goes double for this story. I really liked it. Was a bit squicked out by parts of it. But I have no idea what it means. Has anyone read it? If not, why don’t you, then come back and let me know what you thought.
The first part of the story, the train journey with the Sheelas, intrigued me. I so want to know more about the Sheelas and their bajazzled tights and their singing. And I liked Su. Don, the narrator, well, I don’t think I liked him at all. In fact I know I didn’t like him. But then again I wasn’t supposed to. I did feel a bit sorry for him though. Going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. He doesn’t understand his wife any more, she “got her act together” and lost weight, got fit, but to Don she looks scrawny now. She’s lost her tits. Plus, and possibly even worse, she seems to know her own mind as well. She isn’t prepared to agree with him and his annoyances.
The second half of the story, well, its all icky sex. With a lot of ick, but that’s the bit I’m really unsure of.
Still some really wonderful writing in it mind.
