Edie Investigates by Nick Harkaway

In a small English village something is afoot. A local gent has lost his head, quite literally. Someone has murdered Donny Crispin by chopping his head off. And so Tim Rice comes to investigate. After all, Donny did some work for his department back in the day. Quite what Tim’s department is, I’m not entirely sure. And while taking some refreshment in the Copper Kettle Tim bumps into Edie Bannister. An elderly lady, to be sure, but she certainly seems to know how to handle herself.

I came across mention of this short story on Nick Harkaway’s blog and seeing how much I enjoyed his Gone away world I decided to give this one a go. And it is a fun read. I really liked the character of Edie, I hope she has a large role in his new book, which is next one my reading list.

This also had the first chapter of his new book, but I didn’t read that. I have it out from the library and am about to get stuck in.

Edie Investigates is a perfect little short story, full of humour and wit. And I loved the fight scene, or, well, lack thereof :)
