That’s right folks, it’s time to once more avoid all contact with RTE as the Rose of Tralee takes centre stage. And you too can participate by placing your bets now. Roll up, roll up.
Course you’d have to wonder how they set up the odds? I mean does Paddy Power take a look at all the photos of the roses and decide which is the prettiest? Or do betting shops get a sneak peak at the “lovely girls” doing their routines, and so is able to come to some sort of decision based on Irish dancing ability, or their tales of their connections with the auld sod.
Of course the real question is, why am I even blogging about it :)

We’ve started the move at work, so I may not be blogging much over the next few days, then again, maybe I’ll be sitting in my office surfing as the movers get busy. We spent today blocking out where we hope the shelves will fit in the new space. Also hoping that our measurements were accurate first time round. I have thought we’d get a chance to double check, but the movers are so quick that most of the shelves are down already. So fingers-crossed every thing will go where we want it to. Still a few bugs to work out, but it doesn’t seem to be half the disaster that was promised.
Means it is a bit less exciting though ;)
Oh, moving always holds some sort of disaster or intrigue. Hmm, suppose it all depends on how you look at it as to which one it is now, doesn't it? ;)
Very cool look.
And I completely agree with LiVEwiRe, disaster will strike, probably… when you least expect it.
Hey, Fence! Lovely new template! I love the photos of River–makes the whole template much more feminine, but very mysterious, thanks to her character and the "night-shadow" colour choices.
Have fun with the move!
I always associate the Rose of Tralee with eating scones in my aunt's front room in Limerick. I can't help feeling a fondness for it. It seems less crass to me than a lot of stuff. But I wouldn't actually watch it.
I just don't understand why good-looking women are prohibited from competing in it. That's mad.
Fence, I can't access the books and film reviews from here. You have to dumb it down for people like me.
My comments keep getting eaten, I see. I'll try not to take it personally, but it's getting kinda hard…
At the moment things are going okay. We've had a few mini-disasters but so far so good Livewire.
Mal I've never watched it. The closest I've come is seeing that Father Ted episode. And I see that you found your way to the other site, but I'll add the link as soon as I get the chance.
It also keeps Percy French's lyrics alive, which is a noble thing in itself. Are you right there, Michael, are you right…
It does? Is it the theme, or do the lovely girls sing it?
Every third Rose is obliged by custom to recite:
If I were a lady; but then I'm not
My dinner comes out of the stirabout pot.
And long may it continue.
I don't like this Lego man you have representing me by default, Fence. How do I change it?
And it's not "lovely girls". It's lovely gerruls.
That is the default gravater. It represents everyone who hasn't registered for one. And it isn't any old lego man, it is puppet Jayne!
But to get your own simply find a square pic that you like and go to Gravatar.com and upload it. (Though I've just been checking their site and it seems to be down at the mo'. It'll probly be up and running fairly soon)
Do you know I'll keep posting here until my comment finally appears (unless of course I'm being consciously blocked………)?
