In a near future, a lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to meet his every need.

I like Joaquin Phoenix, as an actor obviously. I know nothing about him really. And I love Amy Adams. I like Scarlett Johansson and think she does a great job here in a difficult role.

The film itself is shite though.

I mean it is well made and I thought it looked great. And the actors all did their jobs. I had no problem believing in any of them. I just didn’t really care. It seemed like one of those “oh woe is me” films when we don’t actually see the woe.

That’s harsh, because Theodore is in the process of getting a divorce. He has every right to be sad and upset. But there was just something so self-centred about his character. Maybe it was because it was entirely from his point of view and we never saw him be anything but a mope, or do anything much bar moan while talking. But I dunno, why on earth would Samantha have ever fallen in love with him?

And this won an Oscar!?

It should have been so much better. The central theme of what is humanity and consciousness and what exactly is it that we fall in love with. This film doesn’t really address any of that, for me.

Meh is my final decision.
