Based on books by Arthur Conan Doyle
I really enjoyed the first of these “reimaginings”, although I don’t think that Robert Downey Jr.’s character is really Sherlock Holmes. I haven’t read a lot of the Conan Coyle stories, although they are on Mount TBR, but this flashy character just doesn’t seem right for Holmes. The BBC’s modern Sherlock is much more Sherlock-y to me.
That being said, in the main this, just like the first film, is great fun. Sure, there is very little behind the action and the cool shots. And the plot is unnecessarily convoluted and long-winded, and in places doesn’t really make sense. But none of that really matters, Downey & Law have great chemistry together and it is fun and actiony and nonsensical in the best possible way. Although not as good as the first one I’m afraid.
