Based on books by Arthur Conan Doyle I really enjoyed the first of these “reimaginings”, although I don’t think that Robert Downey Jr.’s character is really Sherlock Holmes. I haven’t read a lot of the Conan Coyle stories, although they are on Mount TBR, but this flashy character just doesn’t seem right for Holmes. The BBC’s modern Sherlock is much

Based on books by Arthur Conan Doyle IMDb ; Sherlock Holmes Guy Ritchie’s re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes is quite a different man from the detective that might pop into your head when you hear the name. There are similarities, of course, but this film has all the flash of a Ritchie film. All that flash and very little depth. Which

Surprisingly I liked this. I loved the first, but was bored during the second, so I wasn’t expecting great things from the third in the series. Maybe this was the reason I liked it, low expectations and all, but whatever the cause I’m glad. It isn’t as good as the first; I don’t think I’d be bothered to rewatch it.

Come on now, who doesn’t love the “heroes in a half-shell”? The main reason I went to see this was that is was on at the right time, and of course the nostalgia reason. Plus I haven’t been to see an animated film in a while. And this looks fantastic. Visually it is really great. The plot, characters, and dialogue

It is 2054, Paris and a young woman has just been kidnapped. Karas, a police captain specialising in kidnapping is charged to find her, and to find her alive. The company she works for, Avalon, are very insistent that this researcher be found. But if I’m honest the plot isn’t really all that interesting. Run of the mill sci-fi detective

In this, the third X-Men film, there are two main plot lines. One concerns Jean Grey and her return from death in the form of the ultra powerful Dark Phoenix. The other revolves around a cure for the mutant gene, and what this will mean for the X-Men, and for mutants everywhere. Only trouble is, this film is such a

I’m a big fan of Pitch Black, that low budget horror in space. And I used to be a big fan of Vin Diesel’s but recent film-roles have made me all a bit meh. Still, I’m surprised it took me this long to get around to watching this film, but I finally caved and got the dvd last week. And

Yes I did know that this wasn’t supposed to be very good. I decided to go see it anyway. I figured that maybe it’d have a crap storyline but be cool to watch, you know like Equilibrium. But no. Not cool to watch. No cool plot. No cool characters. :sigh: The  plot: In 2011 99% of the population die

I’ll admit to being a fan of the first Underworld film. Not that it was a great film or anything, but it had style and an interesting premise. Although the execution was lacking it still kept me entertained enough to buy it on dvd. So I was looking forward to this sequal. I should remember that expectations exist to be
