Jersey Boys dir. by

jerseyboys

Jersey Boys is based on a musical, based on the life of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Their formation, rise to fame, and then their disintegration. Going in to the film I knew nothing about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but as I heard the songs I did recognise most of them. All the actors do their job,

The Iceman [based on the book by] by dir. by

based on the true story of Richard Kuklinski. In 1986 Richard Kuklinski was arrested for murder, he worked as a contract killer for the mob, and yet his wife and daughters knew him only as a devoted family man. This is a competent enough film, there is nothing in it that haven’t been done before, but Shannon is excellent in

IMDb ; Metacritic Micky Ward is the youngest of a large family. All his life he has looked up to his older brother, Dicky, who once knocked down Sugar Ray Leonard in a fight. But Dicky is no longer the “pride of Lowell”, he is now a drug addict who is supposed to be training Micky in his boxing career.

The problem I have with films that centre on the British monarchy is that I’m Irish[1] And so predisposed to dislike them. All that pomp and ceremony that exalts the royal person. Bleurgh I hates it. I’m pretty far from a royalist. So there were a few moments during The Young Victoria when my hackles were raised. But for the

Despite my long stated policy of not reading reviews until after I’ve seen a film I’ve come across quite a few views on this film. Mostly positive. Course I didn’t really read any of them. I’m not about to go against my own policy that way. But I did notice the good buzz. So maybe that is why I came out of the cinema a little disappointed at this one.

This is an odd sort of a film. I mean, it clearly isn’t meant to be full of praise for George W. Bush. But at the same time it is almost gentle in its treatment of him. Presenting him as a somewhat simple-minded, but well-intentioned, fool. With Daddy Issues. The film cuts back and forward in time. From W. as

I loved this film. I loved everything about it. The acting was brilliant. The way the story unfolded. The narration. The casting. The scenery. The cinematography. The soundtrack. Everything was just great. Best film I’ve seen this year. Which’d be a higher compliment if this wasn’t the first film I’ve been to see so far this year. But I’m guessing

There really isn’t all that much to this film, which is loosely based on the life of Jane Austen, it is watchable but not memorable. The film amps up the real-life flirtation between Austen and Tom Lefroy to turn it into a full blown romance, with elopement and other such excitements thrown in. There may be some who are annoyed

As you can see from that impressive cast list, this is a bit of an ensemble film, which means it runs the risk of the audience not caring about the characters. And I’m afraid it failed. I just didn’t care about any of them. And the story itself was a whole heap of nothingness. I mean, I’m sure that it

I don’t ever remember reading any of Beatrix Potter’s books, but I’m still familiar with them, but for many other people I’m sure they are fond childhood memories. They are after all among the best-selling children’s books of all time. Although back in the early 1900’s most of the publishers that Miss Potter approached didn’t really see the potential of
