I’m trying to get back into drawing stuff every now and then. For a few months I’ve been telling myself that I really should try one of those daily art prompts, or something. As of yet I think daily is probably pushing it a bit. But weekly, weekly I might be able to do. And seeing as I have a sketching app yoke on my tablet I’m going to try and use that. If should, at the least save paper as I can delete far easier than with pencil & paper.
So, my first effort, a cow.
I have a lot to work on, but it could be a lot worse, and for a first attempt I’m sort of happy with it1

Heey, nice! I like how soft and pet-able it looks and the colors you used, and your lines are smooth and sure. It’s a very graceful cow. Drawing programs are great. You can make myriad mistakes and fix them instantly without any hassle, and you can draw anywhere without having to haul supplies around. Plus, you don’t have to buy supplies! And the programs provide tons of tools and effects that you may not be adept at on your own, so you get to experiment along avenues you might not otherwise travel. I bought a Wacom at the beginning of the year and used it a lot at first, but haven’t for awhile because I’ve had a couple mixed media pieces to finish. I’m sure I’ll meander back at some point because it IS a lot of fun. Anyway, all that to say—enjoy!
Also, I hope you keep your resolution. My current style is primitive and childlike and not many people chime with that, but I try not to let that stop me from sharing (I admit that sometimes it does). I like my art, it makes me happy, and that’s ultimately the only thing that matters. Putting yourself out there artistically is scary as hell and there are always critics, and there can be a whole lotta dead silence, but if you like what you do it’s going to come through, and your pictures will end up pleasing other folks!
I find that using layers makes it easier to get rid of the early guidelines. I used to hate rubbing stuff out because I’d always mess that bit up. Now I can mess about and if something isn’t working just delete the layer.
