I seem to have done nothing lately but reviews. And this after I made my grand “returning to blogging” speech. I guess I don’t have very much to say. Either that or I have too much to say, but to start typing it all out would involve actually processing thoughts and forming arguments and constructing a post. That’s just not my bag baby.

I’m more with the whole stream-of-consciousness. Much less work I feel. Plus I’m less likely to think, this makes no sense, hit delete. Cause none of it should really make sense, you know, or it should make sense but only in a nonsensical way.

Whatever.

The real reason I haven’t been around much this week is that I travelled up to Sligo for the week. Twas de sister’s confirmation so I had to mosey on up for that, and I’d time worked up so reckoned I may as well take the week off. Perfect timing as the sun has been shining, and the warmth warming.

That’s our summer over and done with, prepare now for the weeks and weeks of rain.

I told myself I’d do a big tidy yesterday and today. But while I threw out some crap I got bored halfway through. Mess is good right? Also, I have far too many books. I think some need to be culled from the herd. A job I’m always reluctant to start, because I end up stumbling over books going “oooh, I really enjoyed that I should reread it” when the proper reaction would be “that was a fun read, but if I take it off the shelf I’ll have space for new books”. Dilemma indeed.

Anyone know the best way to clean a laptop screen? There seem to be little smudges on Vera’s shiny shiny screen. I don’t want to use too much elbow grease, just in case I make them worse.

Jayzis its freezing. I’m so very very cold. There is the possibility I’ve been shot and this is all the blood draining out of my body… but then again, maybe Westerns got it wrong and Kevin from Eastenders was right, with his talk of warmth and brightness in his death scene. Who knows.

More importantly who cares.

The thing to keep in mind is that I am freezing. The heating at work is shiter than shite. And so I am freezing.

I don’t think I have it quite as bad as Alan, but then again, he does have six heaters, so who is he to complain. What have I got? A crappy air conditioning thingy that is supposed to be heating up the room to 29 degrees. And yet I’m so cold I can’t type. Yeah, yeah, I’ve just typed this, but seriously, it has taken me three hours or non-stop painstaking work with many pauses in between striking the keys in order to do that cup your hands and blow in to them thingy that has no real effect at all.

Look for me again when the spring returns and my hands thaw out.

It is a bit chilly out this morning. But sunny so far, so its all good, plus, I suppose it is really and truly Autumn now, so I can’t complain.

I know, I know, talking about the weather, not exactly a gripping start to a post, and after I’ve been a tad lackadaisical about updating, but what do you expect? Do you really want me to moan about the RWC again? I can. It’d be easy. After all we did almost lose against Georgia. And as Roy Keane might say, all credit to Georgia, but, at the end of the day, we did win. And that is what is important. Never mind the shocking display. Never mind the lack of skills on display. Never mind that if it hadn’t been for Leamy getting under that ball they would have scored another try.

And now, now we have Eddie O’Sullivan dropping Stringer in favour of Reddan. Georgian Murphy out of the 22, Duffy on the bench. Trimble in for Hickie. I’m not sure I want to watch the game on Friday.

But you know what, I’m staying optimistic. Or deluded. Either way that good feeling I had before the RWC began, it is still here, and I’m sticking with it. Clinging desperately may be slightly more accurate, but whatever.

And of course the rumours are floating around about trouble in the camp. So dilemma. Do I repeat them and feed what may just be lies? Of course not. Because if the rumours of bust-ups at training are true then at least it shows some bit of passion. And while I don’t believe that it has gone totally Saipan on us, rumours of Geordan Murphy walking out may just breathe a bit of life back into the team.

Or maybe I really am totally deluded.

In other news have you heard the story about the body found on a Kerry beach, and taken away in a hearse? You know, the one that turned out to be a fish.

The world is a funny funny place sometimes.

Today’s post title was supplied by Karl Richardson and he was referring to those Saipan-style rumours.

Yesterday, about 3, after posting my Thursday Thirteen, it began to really rain. And the heavens made with the thunder, and the lightening, and the darkening of the skies. And I thought to myself “not going to football then”. But then it stopped. And I shrugged, and come half five I was out on the pitch. And come 5.35 there was more rain.

At first it wasn’t so bad. Just a soft pattering. But that turned into a drizzle. Which developed into a downpour. Eventually whole buckets were falling from the sky.

But we played on.

Are we ever hardcore or what ;)

Course on account of the previous rain it was actually pretty hard to play, some of the fellas had football boots, and they managed to stay up more than us fools mud-skating in our runners. But is was good fun, even the bits when it rained so much that you couldn’t really see where you were going.

It’ll have done wonders for my cough; this running around in muck and rain.

So who was a Garth Brooks fan and recognised the title?

It is still raining.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usSomeone said 36 days. I’m not so sure but it has been a long time since we had a day without rain.

Now, I know that Ireland is known for being a rainy part of the world. But this has gone far enough, umbrellas are becoming part of hands, they’ve been in use for so long that the handles are melting into skin. Totally not an exaggeration.

Urgh. It is still raining. Actually that should probably be it is still raining. Now, unlike many, I don’t have a problem with the rain. I quite like water, even when it falls from the sky. But this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Today, in case you didn’t know, is the 5th of July. The Fifth of July! And outside it is raining. As it was yesterday, and the day before, and the day before, and I could go on repeating myself for a whole winter’s worth of day befores. Only it isn’t winter. It is summer. Supposed to be.

Over the past 7 days we’ve gotten 328% of what we’d normally get. Or at least I think that is what Met Eireann are telling me. And I’d like to say to whomever is responsible that enough is enough. We’d like our regulation day of summer, if you don’t mind. Or at least the phantom of a blue sky for an hour or two. But this maybe it’ll clear up outlook in the morning followed by huge downpours in the evening. Yeah, not so good. Although I did have fun walking in the monsoon like downpour on Tues. It was great, although my runners didn’t thank me for it afterwards. And despite the coat and umbrella, neither did my shirt or trousers.

and this sort of forecast:

Friday night will be largely dry, apart from the odd shower near some western and northern coasts. A few showers are still possible on Saturday, but it will be a mostly dry day with sunny spells. Highest temperatures will range 16 C to 19 C, with a light west to southwest breeze. Sunday will bring showery outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, though some bright or sunny spells can also be expected. Highest temperatures of 16 C to 19 C, with fresh and gusty southwest winds. Monday will be another breezy day with showers or longer outbreaks of rain.

, come on! It’ll be sunny and rainy and breezy and rainy and showery with sunny spells and gusty win and rainy and rainy and rainy. That’s not a forecast.

Even Oscar Wilde’d be moaning about this weather. Though possibly with a couple of wittier sayings and one-liners.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

ROG has let himself go a little

Yeah, so I’m a day early, but I won’t be here tomorrow. So instead we are going to pretend that tomorrow is today. Which of course means only one thing. Rugby!

Oh and some parades and stuff.

There are construction workers all over the shop, hard at work Prep- Man At Work putting up the fun fair. And the luminarium. And probably a lot of other stuff. Even one of the sex adult shops nearby has decorated for St. Patrick’s day. Which strikes me as slightly odd. I mean are leprechauns sexy? I’m shuddering having just typed that. And now thinking about that episode of The Simpsons, you know the one with the fortune teller who puts a curse on the family and Bart drowns in a bowl of cereal? And the leprechaun gets it on with the fortune teller, right there on the wedding alter. Sex and leprechauns, who’d've thought it was so commonly represented in modern pop culture.[1]

I’ve decided to take Tues off as well, so a lovely long weekend for me. I just couldn’t face the hassle of travelling back to Dublin on Bank Holiday Mon. I’m also thinking that a fair few students are going to show up on Monday, surprised that the college aint open. I’d make my usual “furriners” snort of amusement, only a couple of the Irish girls have mentioned coming in to study then. So instead I’ll just go with a more ethnically inclusive snort of “idjits”

In more disturbing news[2] it appears that there may be snow this weekend.

Snow is possible on high ground in parts of Ulster and Connacht. Still very cold on Tuesday, but not as windy or as shower

Dude! Cad faoi sin. I mean, I know it only says chance, and we all know that chance’d be a fine thing, but still. Snow, after St. Patrick’s day? What is the world coming to?

Also, is this not the coolest thing ever: OCLC’s Dewey Web Browser.
Okay, maybe if you aren’t a librarian it isn’t as cool. But look, you just stick in some book details, like Blink Gladwell and it shows you exactly where it gets the Dewey number from. Coola-boola. Course, if you put in something like Michael Collins then you’ll see why some people think the DDC needs to be looked at again, as after clicking on the history option, and then the European option you get to see that “British Isles” is listed, but not Ireland. Oooooh, contentious.

Linknotes:
  1. and god knows what this post is going to do to the referral stats
  2. I have no idea what the more refers to, I mean, yes the leprechaun-sex stories were disturbing, but they werent news
