TT #29

Published by Fence under Weekly memes

Everyone loves stats. And everyone who has a blog loves learning who came a-visiting and why. So, with thanks to Statcounter I’m revealing 13 questions or queries that people wanted answers to on my site.

  1. how believable is die hard 4.0 - I’m guessing not very. Afterall, the whole premise is pretty unbelievable, never mind the fact that John McClane “kills a helicopter with a car”. Still it is entertaining. And that is more important than reality. As reality tc has taught us.
  2. name of the song from the prison break ad on rte2 - Hmm, there are two. One of them is by Arcade Fire, I can’t remember the exact title, but I think it is Intervention. The other one, which mixed different programmes together, The Sopranos, Prison Break amongst others is by The Mission UK and is called Father
  3. what book was the movie alpha dog based on - It was based on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood, and from what I know it wasn’t based on any book at all.
  4. To the person who came looking for the most violent fairy tale I really don’t know what to say. Originally they were all pretty violent, but over the years they’ve been sanitized. Red Riding Hood has a lot of violence. A granny being eaten by a wolf. A woodsman chopping open a wolf. Lot of blood there. Snow White and the Seven Dwaves likewise. Okay, so the evil queen’s henchman didn’t cut open Snow White’s chest cavity and pull out her heart, but he did do that to a deer. Anyone else want to provide some blood-soaked fairy tales?
  5. what do you wear to a baptism if you are the godmother - I asked the very same question at one stage. No definite answers. Just remember a baby will be involved to nothing to white :)
  6. To the person who wanted to see hurling and lucozade sport ad 2007 I’m sorry, but I can’t help you. I was looking at one stage and couldn’t find it either. There are plenty of other GAA ads on YouTube though.
  7. brent pope rugby bio - Well, there is a bit here and a little bit more here, but if you’re looking for a whole book I can’t see one. He does write children’s books though
  8. ‘jack rackham’ pre-pirate - Try wikipedia
  9. song words little musgrave - planxty - Well, you can Listen here. And read here. Planxty are mighty altogether :) aren’t they?
  10. Gene Hunt huntisms - I have a collection here, but you might also want to take a look here as well
  11. what is idris elba im address - now what sort of a question is that? Do you know him? Well then ask him, otherwise leave him alone. I’m sure he has an agent you can contact. Try IMDb
  12. cheyenne, matrilineal society - Now this is a controversial topic. Cause yes, they were matrilineal, in that the family name went through the mothers. Stands to reason really. Only women can be sure that a child is in fact theirs. Or at least according to some anthropologists. Others say not. Try looking for articles and research in your local library. Or Google Scholar might be a good place to start.
  13. rugby - you really need to be a little more specific in your searches.

No referral fun

Published by Fence under Irishify, Ramblings

Tá fhíos agat that looking at your stats and referral logs is fun fun fun. All those wacky phrases and meaningless search strings. Bhuel, féach, tá siad lacking in the fun department today..

  • A search for Carlo Gebler the bull raid - fits, because I reviewed the book. Unimpressed with it, so I was.
  • A search for Gene Hunt quotes - fits again. Because is é Gene Hunt an fear, and we has a great grá for him.
  • a search for attia of the julii - When is Rome coming back?
  • a search for surrounded armed bastards - this’d be Mr. Hunt again. An fear is fearr[1] ;)

The only one that makes me even vaguely go “hmmmm” is the search for sally sue with white lace, and that arrives here on account of a quote from Stephenie Meyer’s New Moon.

Aréir, chuaigh mé to see Julius Caesar in the Abbey. Twas grand, dragged a bit at times, but overall a grand night’s entertainment. The set design was great, the costume design, not so much.

The power to stop a nation

Published by Fence under Irishify, Sport, TV

Today’s Irish Times has some interesting facts on the rugby match[1]

An average of over one million viewers tuned into RTÉ on Saturday to witness Ireland beat England 43-13 at Croke Park.
These average numbers (1.052 million) are remarkable: they trump the peak figures for the Ireland v France game on February 4th, the soccer World Cup final in July and the All-Ireland hurling final in September, which were all just shy of the seven-digit figures.

Seventy per cent of those watching television on Saturday tuned into the coverage, anchored by Tom McGurk, from 5.40pm to the final whistle at 7.27pm. An average audience of 535,000 watched the entire coverage from 2.30pm to 10pm.

he independent electricity system operator Eirgrid noted a decrease in demand similar to that experienced during the Ireland v Romania game at the soccer World Cup in 1990.
Because people were watching the match together in sitting rooms or public houses all over Ireland, lights or appliances in other rooms were not switched on and this meant the demand for electricity during the match was 100 megawatts less than on a normal Saturday at this time of the year.

the effect was also demonstrated by a temporary rise in demand at half-time as kettles all over the country were switched on

The Blower’s Daughter

Published by Fence under Music

Was checking out my referrers/visitors and whatnot and someone had been asking Jeeves what the meaning of The Blower’s Daughter is. Well, to be honest, like all songs it means what you want it to mean, what it says to you is what is important, imo.

But then again maybe there is a definitive meaning behind it, if so it may be discussed here. Who knows?

By the way, its a song by Damien Rice, and a very good songwriter/singer he is too. Supposedly the new think in Britain/US where he has started to sell. Been big here for quite a while. Had his album at least a year, I think.

Ah Man

Published by Fence under Webby stuff

Totally forgotten my blogpatrol log in details, so have gone and re-registered. V anoying as way-back when I always used it to surf to referrer sites.

But, talking of referrers I’ve recently signed up to Blog Explosion which, so far, seems a dangerously addicitve way to both increase your blog’s traffic and to find new reads.

(Have seen Blog explosion mentioned on a few sites, but I gotta give credit to Sally for alerting me to its presence.>

EDIT: have actually remembered my username, so have succesfully gotten password YIPEE! When I signed up with BlogPatrol I had a typo in my username, only just remembered that now

Aren’t referral-logs fun?

Published by Fence under Webby stuff

From them I learned that someone came by wondering what “cen fath” means. Well I can tel you, Cén Fath is Irish for why, or what reason.

Course, they’ve already been by, and most likely aren’t coming back so what’s the point was in me saying this now? I guess I just don’t have anything else to post about :)
