Dir: Michael Mann
Writ: Michael Mann & TV show by Anthony Yerkovich
- Colin Farrell - ‘Sonny’ Crockett
- Jamie Foxx - Ricardo Tubbs
- Li Gong - Isabella
- Naomie Harris - Trudy Joplin
- Ciarán Hinds - FBI Agent Fujima

If I’m honest there isn’t much to say about this film. Overall it is a huge amount of meh. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe I should at the very least try?
Basic blot outline, Sonny and Ricardo are undercover agents, and after one an interagency force gets discovered, they go undercover in order to find out what agency is responsible for the leak, and how the drug dealers discovered this. So off they travel, to some poor drug-ridden, crime-infested South American country. And get the gig, now they are in with the baddies. But not quite trusted.
And then Sonny starts to fall for the main badguys’ girl, who is also a very efficent “business woman”
But I just didn’t care. Scenes and scenes of talk, talk, and wait for it, yes, a little more talk. Interspersed there are some very pretty shots. But scenery and talking doesn’t make for an entertaining film… actually I was entertained by Cave of the Yellow Dog which was very much scenery and dialogue, so I guess you can. But not here. It is all just so pointless. There’s no tension or drama. And while the action scenes do look great, they don’t feel great.
My final verdict? I’ll paraphrase the woman who left the cinema just after me “In all fairness now, that was fucking woeful.”

Jarhead is the story of one young Marine as he goes through training and then into Iraq during the early 90’s. It isn’t an overtly political film, although Kruger has a few interesting, if throwaway comments to make. It is a personal view of the war, and how war changes people/
As a film I don’t think that this was anything special. It was entertaining enough, but both Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard are better than the film. The relationship between the pair is really what is at the heart of the film, the rest is simply the set-up.
And this is fairly understandable, considering that the film is based on the memoirs of Swofford. Of course as a film about war, and Iraq it does have a political message, if you want to see one. If you don’t you can ignore all that.

It’s 2001 with added explosions and minus any thought. If you want to reduce Stealth down to basics of course
Personally I kind of enjoyed it. I went in expecting shite, and I came out having seen shite. But enjoyable shite.
The plot revolves around an experimental AI plane that is being introduced sometime in the near future by the US navy. Only things don’t go according to plan, if they did there wouldn’t be any film now would there? Lucas, Biel and Foxx play the three fantastic pilots who fly around the world, much in the style of Team America only without that classy music. They are told about evil terrorists and off they head to blow them up, not a thought in their heads about the fact that they are violating other countries and if someone did the same to the US all hell would break loose. But lets not try to make this film reasonable. Because if you are looking for logic or thought, well you wouldn’t have gone to see a Rob Cohen film then would you?
As you can see instead of the characters, or the poster for Stealth I’ve used the picture of an explosion. Why? Well because that is what this film is all about. Mindless action. Ultra mindless.
Course fans of 2001: A Space Odyssey may be a little annoyed to find that HAL has been transformed into a killer plane called Edi, but what can you do.
