Green TD ordered out of Dail over raising the issue of a hunger striker
Tom Sweeney has been on hunger strike out side the Dáil for over 20 days now. He was abused in one of Ireland’s state run industrial schools, and was offered €113,000, but after telling his story this was reduced to €70,000. Since then he has been on hunger strike outside the Dáil.
When Green Party TD Paul Gogarty attempted to raise the issue today, as the Dáil will not sit until Tues (I think), he was ordered out of the building.
“Over a week ago an ambulance was called and doctors told him that within five days his [Mr. Sweeney's] organs would begin seizing up. He knows his days are numbered”
“Mr Gogarty had attempted to raise the plight of hunger striker Tom Sweeney, but Mr O’Hanlon [the Ceann Comhairle] said the question was not in line with Dáil business.”
