I came across that picture on
PostSecret and is it ever true.
I don’t know any of you have seen Beowulf yet, but if not, does this review not make you want to go? and I quote:
Beowulf the movie, based on the epic poem of the same name, is quite probably the most heinous culprit for stealing childhood from children ever made [...] why must such great talent and genius be wasted on such content as in Beowulf? Art is not sin and sin is not art. But art becomes sin when art uses sin. [...] Sexual Immorality found enough content to earn a score of zero out of 100. R-rated films earn scores of 54 and below. The Sexual Immorality content earned zero. The film is rampant with nudity. [**] Lots of nudity. Male. Female. Frontal. Side. Rear. There is no doubt watching this film will incite sexual thoughts and feelings — lust of the eyes — in your 13 year old kids [...] Grendel murders one of Beowulf’s men by biting off and chewing the man’s head. Chewing, crunching and slurping are heard as the demon eats the man’s head. Grendel murders another man by crushing the man’s head between his hand [...] And there is a suicide. A fine element of content for the middle school age stratum [...] saturation of large parts of film time with full male and full female nudity, all sides and angles, male-specific anatomy always in the shadows or hidden by convenience objects with only the pubic hair missing in the female nudity, but in all cases all other anatomy and tissues visible [...] excessive breast exposure, repeatedly [...] attention to male crotch

For those of you who don’t know, Neil Gaiman is involved in bringing the story of Beowulf to the big screen. And the cast, imo, sounds great so far; Ray Winstone, Brendan Gleeson, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie and others. Of course they won’t be seen on the screen as performance capture technology is being used to create the film. Not motion capture. That is something entirely different.
But it seems as though there is more than a little discontent in the Beowulf-loving community, with phrases like “spitting on your grandmother” and insults such as “overly literal twit” being bandied around. Has madness really taken over the Anglo-Saxon community?

the internet.
Through it you can find out such great information. For example, Neil Gaiman has a Beowulf script that looks like it’ll be made into a film, directed by Robert Zemeckis.
I also manage to finally purchase GGK’s Fionavar trilogy. I went into Hodges looking for it, but although they had book one and book 2, there was no sign of book 2. I tried to order it but twas told “out of print”. So got online this morning and ordered it from amazon. All three cost me around 7 euro, but its almost double that to get them posted. Still cheaper than buying them all new I suppose.

Went to the kino on Sat., saw Ladder 49 and Vanity Fair. Neither were very good, but isn’t the lovely Mr. James Purefoy very watchable?
First saw him as the Black Prince in A Knight’s Tale and he does catch the eye. Anyways, through the wonder that is the imdb I found out he will be playing Marc Anthony in a TV series about Rome. Made by the BBC and HBO so we should get a glimpse over here.
