Now its gone… gone… gone

Posted by: Fence   in Music, Ramblings

I can’t help feel like there is something I’ve forgotten to do. I certainly don’t have that Friday feeling this afternoon, though that may be down to the fact that I have to work tomorrow :( Still could be worse. I’m guessing it’ll be quiet so I’ll be doing a whole heap of nothing.

But, I’ve checked my phone and have “no calender entries for today” yet still the feeling that I should be doing something just won’t go away. It’s annoying.

In much better news I went to see Declan O’Rourke play last night. I do think he is just fab.

There’s white things in the air

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

What’s this, what’s this? A post from me that’s more than a review?
What’s this, what’s this? More than just an excuse?

Honestly, I don’t know what it is, but you can blame JP for it. Him and his complimentary comment. I guess flattery really will get you every where[1] Part of the reason I haven’t been blogging as much recently is that I’ve been going out more often. Consorting with people in real life and getting all my insane inanities out that way. Sharing the pointless with real life people as opposed to you good online souls.

But it is also because I just don’t seem to be as chirpy as I used to. Not that I’m unhappy or moany or anything like that. It’s just I’m not as chirpy[2]

Maybe it is just that I’m getting tired of other people and their stupidities. They really do make me wonder[3] Nothing major, don’t get me wrong, just the little things that make me raise my eyebrow in a quizzical manner[4] Like, at the World Street Performance Championships[5] there a while back we were all gathered around, sitting on the grass, eating ice-creams, bumping into strangers, crowded in to watch the wierdo[6] as he swallowed swords. But next to me is a woman, fair enough, nothing wrong so far, but she has a bike. And instead of realising that having this great hunk of metal in the middle of a crowd of people is a little silly she decides that it’d be a good idea to keep it next to her. It was a foldy up one, so things coulda been worse. But at the same time, come on! Made it very difficult to sit comfortably with a bloody pedal pressing into your ankle.

Is it just me or is that rude?

And another thing, scooters. Not the motorbike type, the other version, you know, skateboards with handlebars. You know them right? Anyways hands up who among you think that it is a good idea to hurtle along through morning rush-hour pedestrians? yeah, didn’t think so.

I’m sure you all got the title’s reference? Right, Nightmare before Christmas peoples.

  1. or every thing. Although if a post from me is all you are looking for you really must have a sad life. And I pity you.
  2. - If no explanation is forthcoming simply use the wonder tool of repetition.
  3. oooh it makes you wonder. Everyone sing along now
  4. Well, that would happen if I could do that raise one eyebrow thing. Alas, I am flawed and cannot. Pity me.

  6. I mean that in the best possible way

Summer is Dublin

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

Is full of fun. Or so the advertising tells me, and that must be true :) Still I did have fun this weekend. Friday I headed up to see Leonard Cohen play. It was great. Plus I Mick Galwey was there. Mick Galwey peoples!

Sat didn’t get off to such a good start however. Headed to the pub at half ten to watch the rugby. That was such a frustrating game. We really should’ve won. But poor decision making and silly errors. Still, at least Rob Kearney had an excellent game. The one bright spot.

That afternoon we wandered around Merrion Square watching people swallow swords and make magic out of nothing:

There are many apostrophe’s

Posted by: Fence   in Clickies, Ramblings

Yes. I know. No need to say it. I’m well aware that the plural does not take an apostrophe. But I don’t think anyone told the ad designers for Mexico’s tourist campaign as plastered across many many of Dublin’s buses is the slogan “There are many Mexico’s”.

hmmmm.[1]

Oh, and in case you were wondering the “clickie” category idea is gestolen from here and here. Basically it is a collection of links that I either think are interesting, or that I want to read at a later date. So I’m bookmarking them with del.icio.us and that then automatically posts them here once a day. How much fun is that[2]

Linknotes:
  1. - Im also aware that I am the last person that should be pointing out such flaws as there are probably a billion similar ones on this blog. But then again, I dont get paid for this
  2. - possibly none

This crunchie feeling is just plain wrong!

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

Howdy folks, anything new and exciting going on with you lot. I’m all out of whack with the days of the week. I keep thinking that today is Friday; it isn’t. Today is Thursday[1] But I’ve got that Friday feeling[2] Albeit[3] one that is dampened cause I know it is premature.

I think I shall have a delightful[4] weekend of doing nothing at all[5] And it is a long weekend. I can’t wait. Cause you know the way you have nothing to do for ages and ages and then suddenly everything happens at once. For the past two weeks I’ve had places to go and people to see almost every single day. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but tiring. A long lie in and a relaxing weekend of telly sounds like a most excellent plan.

*yawn*

I’ve also been bold[6] and gone and bought books. There is an order from Amazon on its way, or at least it will be on its way, but not til August[7] cause I’ve pre-ordered Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer[8] And yesterday I wandered around Easons and came across The Dragon Waiting by John M. Ford. Okay, it was really its new cover that got my attention. It has been republished in Orion’s Fantasy Masterworks series and it looks purty. So I picked it up and read the first few pages. Alternate history with a bit of fantasy thrown in. Sounds like my kind of book. And I made with more wandering about and I spotted Empire of Ivory by Namoi Novik. The 4th in the Temeraire series, which I’d meant to pick up ages ago, but then forgot, or never knew, that it had been published in paperback. Its a different cover style than my other books in that series though…

Linknotes:
  1. jic you two are out of whack
  2. for some reason Im singing this line to the tune ofYou’ve lost that lovin’ feeling
  3. this is such a great word
  4. and no doubt a spiffing one
  5. course now that Ive gone and said this someone is going to come up with a plan
  6. in the Irish sense, not the bravery sense
  7. which is really really far away!
  8. Ive also orderer her The Host. And Im a little impatient with a 2 month wait

Insert your own randowm quote here

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

I seem to have done nothing lately but reviews. And this after I made my grand “returning to blogging” speech. I guess I don’t have very much to say. Either that or I have too much to say, but to start typing it all out would involve actually processing thoughts and forming arguments and constructing a post. That’s just not my bag baby.

I’m more with the whole stream-of-consciousness. Much less work I feel. Plus I’m less likely to think, this makes no sense, hit delete. Cause none of it should really make sense, you know, or it should make sense but only in a nonsensical way.

Whatever.

The real reason I haven’t been around much this week is that I travelled up to Sligo for the week. Twas de sister’s confirmation so I had to mosey on up for that, and I’d time worked up so reckoned I may as well take the week off. Perfect timing as the sun has been shining, and the warmth warming.

That’s our summer over and done with, prepare now for the weeks and weeks of rain.

I told myself I’d do a big tidy yesterday and today. But while I threw out some crap I got bored halfway through. Mess is good right? Also, I have far too many books. I think some need to be culled from the herd. A job I’m always reluctant to start, because I end up stumbling over books going “oooh, I really enjoyed that I should reread it” when the proper reaction would be “that was a fun read, but if I take it off the shelf I’ll have space for new books”. Dilemma indeed.

Anyone know the best way to clean a laptop screen? There seem to be little smudges on Vera’s shiny shiny screen. I don’t want to use too much elbow grease, just in case I make them worse.

Hola Chica

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

and how are we all? Been a while since the last proper post, and I don’t know if I’m back in the swing of things yet, but sure, what the hell. Felt like a post so here I am.

Let me see, what has been going on since last I made an appearance. Not very much at all to be honest. Work is kinda busy. Exam time is coming and the geese are getting fat… or the students are busy cramming, something like that.

Took a few days off and visited Rome. Which was nice.

Apart from that nada. Haven’t been reading all that much, and haven’t really seen anything fantabulous in the kino either. Well, In Bruges was great, but apart from that.

I’ve upgraded wordpress to the newest version, and I gotta say, I’m not totally sure about it. Tis very different. Maybe that is the problem. Too different, I gotta get used to it.

Agus sin é for the mo.
