Mount TBR June 2016

18 June 2016

It’s been a few months since my last “to be read” update. Since March I haven’t added too many, well, relatively speaking.

  • Satin, Sameul – Legend rec’d by the Mary SueIn what can only be described as a post apocalyptic world, we ask what happened? Where has everyone gone? And why have dogs (and cats) been left in charge?” (I did try to buy this at one stage, cause animal stories are my thing, but couldn’t track it down. I may have to wait til the comic is collected in book format.
  • Divya, S. B. – Run Time rec’d by Kameron Hurley
  • Griep, Camille – New Charity Blues added because of the author’s post on Scalzi’s big idea
  • Grant, Jules – We go round in the night and are consumed by fire rec’d by Jodie – lady business (bit also because that title is just plain awesome)
  • Palmer, Ada – Too like the lightning rec’d by Jo WaltonToo Like the Lightning is a very difficult book to talk about to people who haven’t read it. It’s a huge complex book introducing a huge complex world, and it’s bursting with fascinating ideas. But there’s no simple elevator pitch explanation for it. I’ve spent the last four years dying to talk about it. As people have been reading the ARCs and loving it and posting about it on Twitter—Kark Schroeder (“most exciting SF future I’ve encountered in years”), Fran Wilde (“AMAZEBALLS. GET. READ.”), Ken Liu (“reflective, analytical, smart, beautiful.”), Ellen Kushner (“stylistically wacky and daring”), Max Gladstone (“I’m kind of in love with this book”)—I’ve been bubbling over with “I told you you’d like it!””
  • Pelevin, Victor – The sacred book of the werewolf added because of this Tor.com article “Five Visions of Post-Soviet Weirdness” but also because I own this book. It has been sitting, unread, on my shelves for years now.
  • Elizarov, Mikhail – The librarian added because of that same Tor.com article “Five visions of Post-soviet weirdness” http://www.tor.com/2016/06/15/five-visions-of-post-soviet-weirdness/
  • Khanani, Intisar – Memories of Ash added because I’ve loved everything I’ve read by this author.
