If you haven’t seen this film then quick, go now. It isn’t that I’m going to spoil it on you, it is simply that its brilliant. You’ll love it[1] And if you don’t then there is something wrong with you! I don’t really know how to describe how great this film is. It is magic. It really is.
Unfortunately I missed the very start as I was one of those terrible annoying people who come in late to the cinema[2] So I missed the opening few seconds, but I was there in time to see Mr. & Mrs. Fox stealing squabs[3] and getting caught. And Mrs. Fox realises that this cannot go on, not with a baby on the way, so she asks Mr. Fox to promise that he’ll give up this life of crime. And he does. But Mr. Fox is a “wild animal”. He can’t help himself. Or so he says.

I’m not quite sure exactly what it is about this film that I love so much. Maybe its the look; the stop-motion animation really works well here. Or the character design. I loved the way the film-makes blended the civilised clothes-wearing animals with their, well, with their more savage animal sides. Watching them tear into breakfast certainly made me smile.
And Rat. Well, he’s just brilliant.[4]
I haven’t read the book. At least, not that I remember, so can make no calls as to how the film compares.
