This film really is utterly preposterous. Unbelievable in the extreme; plot holes every where. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It still kicks ass though. Hugely enjoyable.

It is set in the future, after a virus struck Glasgow the British govt decided the only way to deal with it was to wall off Scotland. Leave the dying to the dead and make sure no one gets through. And so Scotland is abandoned. But years later the virus makes an appearance in England. So a team is sent north, through the wall to the survivors to see if they can find a cure.

Instead they find the remnants of society who seem to have gotten fashion tips from Mad Max with a bit of cannibalistic-punk thrown in. They do not welcome the soldiers and let them know in a series of fun and bloody scenes.

I really enjoyed this film. It is ridiculous in the extreme; the other group of survivors live in a castle and act all medieval. But ridiculous in the very best way. Bits of everything are thrown in, crazily insane leaders, more standard crazies, evil politicians, car chases, bow and arrows, torture. And it is rated 18s so you can expect that blood and gore to be explicit.

It isn’t as good as The Decent or Dog Soldiers but it is a fun, nonsense trip through the countryside of Scotland.

Damn your reviews are bang on again this week as usual. I agree with you 100% on this one (and Iron Man) but we might get some flak from others about that 7 star rating. Nice to see the return of the Dog Soldiers humour, although I think that if they had opted to make a darker/more serious film like the Descent then it could have been great. The scene was set once they quarantined Scotland - but when they went back in, I was hoping for less Mad Max, more Children of Men. But it was not that kind of film, and it worked out OK anyway.

Aye, it could have gone very dark if it had been more Descent, but I’m a huge fan of Dog Soldiers and enjoyed the humour.
Personally i think that 7 is a good mark. Means I’ve enjoyed a film, would watch it again, but amn’t that it wasn’t the best film in the world. Suits both this and Iron Man
