I am totally fed up with a lot of the comments about Mary Harney. I realise that as a politician she is fair game. And as a politician who is in charge of the Health Service at a time when it is scandal after scandal after horrendous error she deserves a hell of a lot of criticism.

But I’m fed up about the cheap shots about her appearance and her weight.[1]

What fucking difference does that make to anything?

To be honest I’ve no clue as to what is going on in the Health service, other than to know it is fucked up, but I do think that Harney should resign. She is the Minister for Health. She is ultimately responsible.

Course the same could be said of Bertie and his shenanigans. It just isn’t something that Irish politicians seem to do, is it? Shower of tossers.

Nevertheless cheap jibes about her physical appearance are just crap and annoying and pointless. What possible difference does it make to how she does her job? If she were stick-thin and anorexic would that make her handling of it any better?

Is it a form of sexism, cause you don’t really see the same amount of jokes being made about overweight male politicians?

Title from this excellent post

  1. Okay, that link is a bit unfair, cause Twenty Major insults everyone, so THAT was a cheap shot on my part

Locked in darkness that surrounded me like a coffin, I had nothing to distract me from my memories. Vivid recollections waited to ambush me whenever my mind wandered.

Image of Poison StudyThe monarchy of Ixia has recently been overthrown by Commander Ambrose and is now ruled by the Code of Behaviour. Punishments are absolute; there is no leeway or excuse that will save you if you break the rules, whether you simply didn’t wear the correct uniform or killed someone. So Yelena expects nothing but a hanging after she killed the son of a high ranking General. But she is offered a slight chance when she is given the choice of either accepting her hanging or becoming the food-taster for the Commander. She accepts the position, and so is poisoned to ensure her loyalty, she’ll need access to the antidote that only Valek, the Commander’s second-in-command can provide.

Now comes the dog again

Posted by: Fence   in Books, Ramblings

It is only Tuesday :(
I wantssess it to be Thursday. Okay, okay, I’d prefer if it were Friday and the working week over, but if I was going to go that far I’d have to hope it was the 20th and I’d be on my xmas hols, but that is wishing your life away and is ever so dreary :)

But Thursday’ll be fun as we are having a charity football match at work. Students v Staff. yay. And in a good cause, tis for concern, so we can feel good about ourselves.

To keep you updated, I still but nevertheless, here I am, typing away like a mad yoke. I spent ages yesterday putting photos up on my facebook account, and answering silly trivia questions. What else can one do when one is bored?

I’ve been reading Hilary Mantel’s A Place of Greater Safety but have decided to toss it for the time being. I’m getting nowhere with it, although I am enjoying it, it simply requires more thought and attention than I’m willing to give at the moment. Plus it, like, totally weighs a ton, so I can’t be dragging it about with me. Maybe over the break when I have the time I’ll get stuck back in.

My problem is that I don’t really know all that much about the peoples involved in the French Revolution, and that, together with their funny furrin names is confudling me. And the fact that I seem to only read it at weekends. Actually I’m guessing that last point is probably the real problem :)

I trying to figure out how much *fun* I should have at the xmas partay. Do I just be merry and go home early so I can go into work the next morning with no trouble? Or do I go out and get totally slaughtered and come to work still drunk? At the moment I’m veering towards the slaughtered option, it seems more fun.

Title is a line from the first chapter of A Plave of Greater Safety, no real reason, I just like the way it sounds.

We can rule the world

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

I went to see Stardust again last night. Its just so awwww, dontcha think?

Life however is a tad more complicated. And there are a lot more surprises than what might come out of box of chocolates, never mind what Forest Gump’s Mammy used to say.

In shiny shiny news my copy of My So-Called Life has arrived. And is it ever shiny, or is it ever shiny? I don’t know if I should bother watching it now, after all it may be shite. Memory lies, remember.

Bleaurgh, blah blah blah. There is stuff I could blog about, but honestly, I couldn’t be arsed. Not in a bad way, just a sorta meh way. Maybe I need to take a blogging break. But I know that the moment I think I should do something like that I’ll have a genius idea and be forced back into the blogging world. And I’ll be damned if my own brain is going to force me to do anything! Damn you brain! etc

Happy Thanksgiving

   Posted by: Fence   in Ramblings

to all you Americans and associates. And Happy Thursday to the rest of you.

I’m off to Sligo in a few hours. I could have got the earlier train, but probably needed those few hours to recover from last night and our ever so exciting Pub Quiz. We got a great turn out, which was great, and I think everyone had a great time. Of course once the quiz was over the fun didn’t end. We headed off to 80s night in the Porterhouse. Rock on Bon Jovi, rock on!

The end of the night was not quite so great, but we’ll ignore that and focus on the fun that was had. Yeah for binge drinking[1] and liver damage[2]

So anyway, I’m away off for the weekend, and a nice long one it’ll be[3] before I return to work on Monday[4] so I may not be online, < braitheann sé on whether or not I can be arsed.

Linknotes:
  1. although I spent most of night on just diet coke as I was busy reading out the questions, I did mange to get in a couple of vodkas and stole a a few fingers worth of beer from the lads before the night was over
  2. - again with call to rock on baby
  3. yay!
  4. boo hiss

Postsecret

I came across that picture on PostSecret and is it ever true.

I don’t know any of you have seen Beowulf yet, but if not, does this review not make you want to go? and I quote:

Beowulf the movie, based on the epic poem of the same name, is quite probably the most heinous culprit for stealing childhood from children ever made [...] why must such great talent and genius be wasted on such content as in Beowulf? Art is not sin and sin is not art. But art becomes sin when art uses sin. [...] Sexual Immorality found enough content to earn a score of zero out of 100. R-rated films earn scores of 54 and below. The Sexual Immorality content earned zero. The film is rampant with nudity. [**] Lots of nudity. Male. Female. Frontal. Side. Rear. There is no doubt watching this film will incite sexual thoughts and feelings — lust of the eyes — in your 13 year old kids [...] Grendel murders one of Beowulf’s men by biting off and chewing the man’s head. Chewing, crunching and slurping are heard as the demon eats the man’s head. Grendel murders another man by crushing the man’s head between his hand [...] And there is a suicide. A fine element of content for the middle school age stratum [...] saturation of large parts of film time with full male and full female nudity, all sides and angles, male-specific anatomy always in the shadows or hidden by convenience objects with only the pubic hair missing in the female nudity, but in all cases all other anatomy and tissues visible [...] excessive breast exposure, repeatedly [...] attention to male crotch

I’ve been going through my old posts, adding tags[1] and I’ve noticed that I’m a lot less rambly than I used to be. Most of my posts now have a reason. Some even make half sense. I’m not quite sure when this began, but really, it must be stopped. The whole situation is abominable and must be stopped.

Which of course, leads to question, can I go back to those “good old days”?

And the answer: well, I just don’t know, we’ll have to wait find out.

In other news, I’ve started watching The Young Riders on Channel Six. Awww. nostalgia how are you.

I used to watch this many many many years ago when it was on RTE. It is crap. But still. And look, dvd release!!

Six are up to episode 7 but I’ve only watched 2 and a half. And I loves it. Mainly for Josh Brolin. Cause I loves him[2] Plus cowboys are cool. Nuff said
