TT #24

Thirteen of my favourite films, that I own on DVD cause otherwise we might be here for a while

  1. Dog Soldiers dir. Neil Marshall. I adore this film. It has soldiers, and werewolves, and humour, and blood and guts and gore. And Kevin McKidd. Brilliant.
  2. A Knight’s Tale dir. Brian Helgeland. This is just so very watchable. Fun and entertaining. And horses. And knights. What more could you want.
  3. LA Confidential dir. Curtis Hanson. What can I say? Great performance by Russell Crowe, I loved his character in this. And Guy Pearce’s performance was great too. Hell, everybody’s acting was great.
  4. The Lord of the Rings dir. Peter Jackson. Yes yes, three films, but I’m including them as one overall work. Because I can.
  5. Once Upon A Time in Mexico dir Robert Rodriguez. Best of this trilogy, imo. And Johnny Depp’s character. Fanatastic.
  6. Once Were Warriors dir. Lee Tamahori. Violent and depressing. But a great film.
  7. Open Range dir. Kevin Costner. I was totally surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. It has everything, violence, death, romance, gun fights, cuteness. And wonderful wonderful scenery.
  8. Withnail and I dir. Bruce Robinson. Sheer Genius.
  9. Pitch Black dir. David Twohy. Great sci-fi horror flick. Ignore the sequel, cause really, it has nothing to do with this film.
  10. The Lost Boys dir. Joel Schumacher. 80’s nostalgia how are ya? Plus, Keifer Sutherland goodness. All good.
  11. Brotherhood of the Wolf dir. Christophe Gans. I love this film. The cinematography is wonderful. The characters are great. The Beast is perfect. All in all it just works so well.
  12. Wedding Crashers dir. David Dobkin. Hilarious. Pure and simple.
  13. Moulin Rouge dir Baz Luhrman. Musical melodrama at its finest.

Great list of movies – there are a few I haven't seen – I'll have to check them out.

Great list of wonderful films. Good for you, I always count trilogies as one film in these type of lists too! I just found a copy of Brotherhood the other day and need to watch it again. I saw it twice in theatres when it came out. What a great film!

Mom not mum, let us know what you think if you do check them out.

Carl, it just makes sense doesn't it? Although I don't think i would with the Matrix because I wasn't impressed with the second two. And I'd divide Star Wars in 2, original and new.

  6. Fence says:

Hey Bernie, no, I don't have Casablanca on dvd. Was never all that impressed with it, but that may because I saw so many clips and knew what was going to happen before seeing it.

  7. weenie says:

Nice list. I have four of those (LA Confidential, LOTR, Pitch Black and Brotherhood of the Wolf) and have watched three of the others. Never seen A Knight's Tale but that's on my to-watch list still.

  8. James says:

I always assumed you were a Big Lebowskiite… it doesn't make the cut?

  9. Fence says:

Oh, A Knight's Tale is great fun, weenie. It's medieval, but not!

James, if I owned the Big Lebowski it would be on the list. But I don't, for some weird reason. I should pick it up…
