A busker and a Bis Issue seller meet on the streets of Dublin. He also repairs hoovers, which is handy, as she has a problem with hers.[1] He fixes it. She asks him to sing. They talk and chat and sing and write songs. Eventually they even record a song.
Not much of a storyline it it?
But this is still a very charming, if slight film. And if you are a fan of Glen Hansard’s music then I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Personally, I like a lot of The Frames stuff, but I don’t love any of it, and often think that Hansard gets a bit too whiney at times. I couldn’t listen to him all day long. Still I did enjoy the music in this film, and that is important because there is a lot of it.
I’ve tagged this film a romance, but it isn’t really. It is more of a film about people getting on in life. A moment in time. All that sort of thing. It is a small film but an enjoyable one.

Haven’t heard of this, or the people in it, or the music, but all you had to say was ‘very charming’ and you had me interested. I like charming films, even more when they introduce me to actors I haven’t seen and music I haven’t experienced. Very cool, I’ll be on the lookout for this coming to Netflix sometime.
Done! Netfix doesn’t have it yet but they have it listed so I added it to my SAVE list.
I like the posters around Dublin where a carefully drawn ‘P’ has been added before the title – Hansard’s talented but his up-his-own arsiness annoys me.
Harlequin, can you give an example?
I have never heard of this movie before, but then, my town sucks movie-wise, so it shouldn’t surprise me.
Lorcan – examples of the arsiness are everywhere! Especially on the live CD. Or when he tells people at his gigs to be quiet! :-)Examples of the poster are no longer around but there was one on Church Street, near the Law Library.
I hadn’t heard of this movie either, but it definitely sounds interesting.
Hi. Email me at john.maybee@fox.com to discuss ONCE. I am working on the film.

Sounds really good – description reminds me a little of Before Sunrise… but perhaps nothing to do with it? All the same I must check it out!
Haven’t seen Before Sunrise so can’t really comment. Once is a decent film. Seems to be doing quite well, and has won a few awards.
