White Noise 2: The Light

Published by Fence under Moving Pictures

Dir: Patrick Lussier
Writ: Matt Venne

  • Nathan Fillion - Abe Dale
  • Katee Sackhoff- Sherry Clarke

Okay, so I wouldn’t have gone to this film at all if it hadn’t been for the fact that Nathan Fillion was in it. I hadn’t seen the first White Noise film so why would I go see the sequel.

I didn’t have a horrible time, but if I had paid I would’ve been a little annoyed, because this was a crap film. Maybe twenty minutes into it a group of lads left our screening, and as they walked out one called over his shoulder “This is a shite film!” At that stage I was still giving it the benefit of the doubt, clearly I should have listened, because it was a shite film.

Not that I expected greatness from a film about a man who tries to commit suicide after his wife and son are murdered and leaves his suicide note on his answering machine so that when his best friend calls he is in plenty of time to save him. Lack of organisation and forward planning there Abe.
Let’s see, what else happens in the film? To be honest not a lot, it isn’t even scary. One or two moments when the music cues are so overpowering that you have to give in, but for the most part total and utter pants. And the ending! I’m not even going to bother explaining how pointless and crap it was. Let alone the fact that it make no sense, then again, not much in this film made sense, so at least it was consistent.

In conclusion: Bleurgh, it isn’t even bad enough to laugh at.

Friday Five Mish Mosh

Published by Fence under Weekly memes

Yes, I am making this a habit. And yes, this habit did start in the new year. But it is in no way a resolution type thing of any shape, variety, colour, creed, species… you get the picture.
This weeks questions:

1. favorite cereal and why?
- At the moment Weetabix. No particular reason. And I’m quite partial to Bran flakes too. I like the odd bowl of Crunchy Nut cornflakes, but they are too sweet to eat every morning.

2. what is the best thing about summer?
- Lack of students mean less work.

3. would you rather have a slurpee or a milkshake?
- A slurpee is sorta like a slush puppy right? Thats what I’d go for, not too fond of milkshakes.

4. If you could be a member of any band/musical group, past or present, what band would it be and why?
- I wouldn’t. Never had the urge.

5. Who is your idol? What are they famous for?
- the golden calf. And it is famous for making Moses a tad irate. False idols and all that.

This site, Fundies say the damdest things makes me sad, and makes me laugh all at the same time. None of the people quoted show any sings of actually having a single iota of christian understanding or compassion. Y’all know I’m not the most religous of people, but my god! These people are like anti-religion or something, while moaning on about god and how everything everyone does is a SIN. And showing off how ignorant and stupid they are. I mean what good thing could anyone find to say about someone who posts the following:

“God hates therefore I hate. God only cares about the Adamic white race therefore I only care for the Adamic white race, bastard.”

Nomination time

Published by Fence under Moving Pictures

This year’s nominees for the Orange British Academy Film Awards have been announced:

    Best Film:
  • BABEL - Alejandro González Iñárritu/Jon Kilik/Steve Golin
  • THE DEPARTED - Brad Pitt/Brad Grey/Graham King
  • THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND - Andrea Calderwood/Lisa Bryer/Charles Steel
  • LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE*
  • THE QUEEN - Tracey Seaward/Christine Langan/Andy Harries

I haven’t seen two of these, but I know I will go see The Last King of Scotland at some stage, Babel, *shrug* the trailers are putting me off, but I’ll probly go cause of the hype. Of the others, I wasn’t overly impressed with The Queen as a film, although Mirren was fantastic in the role. I think I’d like Little Miss Sunshine to win, even though The Departed was great.

THE DAVID LEAN AWARD for Achievement in Direction

  • BABEL - Alejandro González Iñárritu
  • THE DEPARTED - Martin Scorsese
  • LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - Jonathan Dayton/Valerie Faris
  • THE QUEEN - Stephen Frears
  • UNITED 93 - Paul Greengrass

Hmmm, I’m going to go with either The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine or United 93; probably United 93.

    ACTOR in a LEADING ROLE

  • DANIEL CRAIG - Casino Royale
  • LEONARDO DICAPRIO - The Departed
  • RICHARD GRIFFITHS - The History Boys
  • PETER O’TOOLE - Venus
  • FOREST WHITAKER - The Last King of Scotland

Again, some I’ve not see. Can’t see Craig winning it, unless it is cause he is British and these are British awards. He was great in Casino Royale, but it isn’t the sort of role tht deserves the award. Dicaprio would probably be my fav. out of this list, though if I think that Cillian Murphy deserves it for his role in The Wind That Shakes The Barley

    ACTRESS in a LEADING ROLE

  • PENELOPE CRUZ - Volver
  • JUDI DENCH - Notes on a Scandal
  • HELEN MIRREN - The Queen
  • MERYL STREEP - The Devil Wears Prada
  • KATE WINSLET - Little Children

I really hope Streep doesn’t get it, I don’t know why so many people said that was a good film, it was predictable and clichéd, and while Streep was good, the role so doesn’t deserve a mention here, her character was barely a cartoon badguy, let alone a proper character. I haven’t seen any of the other films apart from The Queen, so I’ll go with Helen Mirren for this award.

I won’t bother listing the other nominations, you can visit their site for a look yourself. Not a single mention of The Wind That Shakes the Barley, anyone know if it was eligible?
