I’m terrible for impulse purchasing. Terrible. Went out yesterday and bought a new 30GB mp3 player. See the old one, Norman, well he’s gotten a bit tempermental lately. And seeing as he holds all my music I didnt want him dieing without a replacement. Otherwise I’d lose all the music. But I forgot that my cd-rom drive isn’t working. So the first problem emerged as it took me ages to find out if I could get away without using the software on the disc. I could, but only after downloading the newest version of Windows Media player, and a driver for the mp3. It still isn’t perfect, but it’ll do the job. Or so I thought, as I headed off to load all the songs from Norman on to the laptop, and then from the laptop over to the new mp3 player[1]
Only then Norman really started to play up. Old age, turning him senile I suspect, as after every 20 or 30 songs that transferred he’d suddenly decide that he wasn’t attached to the laptop properly. And I’d have to remove the usb cable and start all over again. Hassle or what.
So I wasted loads of time last night doing that, getting more and more annoyed as Norman was staying attached for less and less time. Til finally it was just one song at a time. Yeah, that was way too much hassle and annoyance. I have a few hundred on Manny, that’ll have to do until I get back to Sligo next bank holiday. I think I have all my music backed up on the home computer. And it’ll have a cd drive that works so I can actually install stuff. Nice.
Oh, Manny is a Creative Vision: M, is you are wondering. And I got the black one. The white looks too ipod-wannabe, and I don’t. And the other colours look a meh to me.
- he’ll get a name eventually, I’m thinking Manny ↩
