What a wonderful way to wake me

Stolen from criminal english the instructions said: List ten musical artists that you like, and then go answer the questions. As JP said in his post, these aren’t my top ten of all time, because I’m not good at ultimate lists, and go through phases of liking different stuff. So this is simply a list of 10 artists I’m listening to at the moment.

  1. Sinead O’Connor
  2. The Streets
  3. Bell X1
  4. Ben Christophers
  5. Michael J Sheehy
  6. Declan O’Rourke
  7. Christy Moore
  8. Martha Wainwright
  9. Evanescence
  10. Planxty
  • What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Sarah (Last Night In A Dream)
  • What is your favourite album of 8?
She only has one, as far as I know. And it is called Martha Wainwright
  • What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
erm…. there are a lot of little bits and pieces in Sheehy’s stuff that I like. The Ballad of the Pissed Apostle has some great lines. But the whole of I can’t comfort you anymore is quite quotable:
“Once I was a blind believer/but now I would only/be two faced/if I told you she’s in heaven/and the pain will cease tomorrow/she’ll watch over you/and the Lord will ease your sorrow”
  • How many times have you seen 4 live?
    Never.
  • What’s your favourite song of 7?
Little Musgrave and of course I have to mention Joxer goes to Stuttgart
  • What is a good memory you have concerning the music of 10?
None. I’ve only started listening to them fairly recently
  • Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
No. But I’ve only got one of their albums, so who knows.
  • What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
All of Get Out of my House, perfect for annoying the brother. And from Dry Your Eyes
So then I move my hand up from down by my side
It’s shakin’, my life is crashin’ before my eyes
Turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies
Touch the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh
‘Cause I can’t imagine my life without you and me
    There’s things I can’t imagine doin’, things I can’t imagine seein’
It weren’t supposed to be easy, surely
Please, please, I beg you please
She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested
She wraps her fingers round mine with the softness she’s blessed with
She peels away my fingers, looks at me and then gestures
By pushin’ my hand away to my chest, from hers
  • What is your favourite song by 9?
    Probbly Going Under and Tourniquet
  • How did you get into 3?
Their song Rocky took a lover was song of the week on Ian Dempsey’s radio show. Liked it so I bought the album
  • What was the first song you heard by 1?
Thats a tough one. I can’t remember not knowing Sinead O’Connor. Probably Nothing Compare To You.
  • What’s your favourite song by 4?
Pretty much the entire album My Beautiful Demon, but if forced to pick one probably It’s been a beautiful day
  • How many times have you seen 9 live?
    Never
  • What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
Driving brother 5 demented by playing Go Get Out of My House over and over again. And then singing it to annoy him. Payback’s great
  • What is your favourite song of 1?
Nothing Comapares To You, Parting Glass and Lord Baker

    And isn't that enough?

Actually, there's an interesting piece on Mike Skinner in today's Irish Times's Ticket supplment. Which should be viewable here
