I heard her voice come crashing in the waves that broke all round for miles and miles

So you might be aware that I recently bought Declan O’Rourke’s album Since Kyabram, and there is one song in particular that I really like. It is called Marrying the Sea. And I’m actually really tempted to just leave it on repeat the whole way home to Sligo.

It is an acapella folk-type of song about a fella who wants to marry the sea. The only thing that accompanies O’Rourke’s voice is the sound of the sea.

But that is a three hour journey. Will I kill it if I listen to it for that long. Lets see, 3*60=180 And the song is around 7 minutes including the instumental bit at the end, so thats 180/7=25 and a bit.

I’ll let you know on Monday if I did kill it as I won’t be online til then. Well, maybe Sunday evening. But I have left a pointless post for anyone around tomorrow.

I suppose if I do get bored I have the option of listening to the whole album…

I think you’ll be ok, I regularly fixate on one song on an album and play it obsessive compulsively over and over. (See Chicago on Come on Feel The Illnoise, Losing My Edge on LCD Soundsystem’s album and far too many others to mention)

I don’t know; I’ve listened to Alanis Morissette’s new album solely and ad nauseam since Christmas, and I have yet to tire of it. Okay, I’m slowing down a little, but damned if I’m going back to Coldplay. Just kidding. I really hate Coldplay.

I’m going to look into the song you mentioned, because I too would love to marry the sea. That’s just about the best thing I’ve ever heard.

Anne, it is okay, I didn’t kill it (although the mouse wasn’t so lucky, more on that later).

And I did listen to it all the way home. And then on the way back up again I switched to Martha wainwright’s album.

Kelly, if you find it I hope you like it. From what know the album is only available in Ireland, but if you really want it, let me know and I’ll see what I can do ;)

I was listenin to it at home over the weekend (between bouts of Battlestar Galactica) and I liked it a lot. Marrying the sea seemed vaguely familiar, either as an old song I heard years ago or in the way Lay me down or some Christy Moore songs seem familiar - reminding me of old folk songs but not actually old folk songs.
I failed to put Mr. O’Rourke onto Shu Lien though so my commuting diet of radiohead and queen (downers and uppers) continues…

Marrying the Sea is one he wrote himelf. So a new one but in an old style. Like She Moved Through The Fair wasn’t written that long ago, but people think it is ancient.

The http thingie has something to do with the remembering details. http is automatically filled in, but then the site remembers that you filled http://url in last time and so sticks it in again.

Actually, it turns out that She Moved through The Fair is an old song. Or at least the tune is, according to wikipedia that is.

I didn’t check it but I did think it was oldish. But I thought your definition of old might be the Irish one (we’re still annoyed over that pesky Ferdia-Cuchulainn showdown after all) so didnae disagree. And cos I am very scared of you.
