I heard her voice come crashing in the waves that broke all round for miles and miles

So you might be aware that I recently bought Declan O’Rourke’s album Since Kyabram, and there is one song in particular that I really like. It is called Marrying the Sea. And I’m actually really tempted to just leave it on repeat the whole way home to Sligo.

It is an acapella folk-type of song about a fella who wants to marry the sea. The only thing that accompanies O’Rourke’s voice is the sound of the sea.

But that is a three hour journey. Will I kill it if I listen to it for that long. Lets see, 3*60=180 And the song is around 7 minutes including the instumental bit at the end, so thats 180/7=25 and a bit.

I’ll let you know on Monday if I did kill it as I won’t be online til then. Well, maybe Sunday evening. But I have left a pointless post for anyone around tomorrow.

I suppose if I do get bored I have the option of listening to the whole album…

I’m not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.

So I’ve not been as verbose as usual for two reasons. Issue the first: work. Now that we’ve got the catalogue & circulation up and running there is a lot of stuff to do. And it is time-consuming, kinda boring stuff. But it has to be done, and hopefully before the students come back in their droves and invade the place.

Issue the second: The SFX forum, it is just addictive.

Issue the third[1] I’ve been busy with Veronica Mars, mainly downloading and then ripping to cd so I can delete cause Pavlov hasn’t the greatest memory in the world :) Also there have been some tv shows that are actually worth watching on. Which is a change.

Issue the fourth: I’ve been writing. An idea popped into my head, and if I just tell the story in my head then I’ll get too far along with it and get bored when I try to write the beginning[2]

Despite these varied issues and concerns I have returned today with a tale of woe. Woe and depression. You see, there is a tv show[3] where silly people discuss cars and brake-horsepower and how crap American/French cars are. And generally act as though they are fantastic, although they are not, yet they still manage to be amusing despite being total arses. This show is called Top Gear. And now Digg people are complaining, whinging and whining cause Discovery are going to be showing a dumbed-down American version.

I know what you are thinking, how on earth could anyone, with the greatest will in the world, dumb down Top Gear? Dumb is what it is. Thats what makes it so watchable. Its all “cars go fast” “Planes go fast” brrrrrrrrm.

Not to mention the fact that it has that moron from Sky One’s hideous Brainiac as a presenter, Hamster they call him on Top Gear, don’t know his real name.

Linknotes:
  1. I know, I said two reasons, but then I remembered others, and value my first impressions far too much to go back and edit
  2. - not sure if that’ll make sense to anyone but me
  3. not Firefly, but see how I still manage to mention it
