I have only the vaguest memories of this show, it aired back in the late 90’s, but there was only 6 episodes made. Think I only actually watched one, but what I saw interested me, so when I spotted the season on sale I thought, what the hell, may as well give it a go.

For most of this episode it could be pretty much any police drama. We have an officer (Jack Davenport, you know, from Pirates of the Caribbean) whose partner is celebrating his stag night as the episode opens. So straight away we know that either the floppy haired partner will die, or turn out evil.

We also learn, fairly quickly, that Mike(Davenport) has a thing for the fiancee. Hmm.

But gradually, as Mike investigates his partner Jack’s non-turning up at the wedding, and a money trail, he begins to suspect that the new police in town aren’t all they say they are.

And when he finds out that they are “neutralising” suspects with carbon bullets, and using a sorta garlic tear-gas Mike begins to suspect that maybe Jack is a vampire.

But, from what I recall the word vampire is never used once in this episode.

Vampire Jack does raise the whole issue of why the police are trying to eradicate the vampires. Afterall, they need humans, they aren’t interested in destroying mankind. They are just fighting back.

Plus we have Jane Bennet from Pride and Prejudice as a scientist-cop-type person, oh okay, the actress who played her in the BBC mini-series plays the Dr. here.
