It would take a very accurate drop to hit Lassie

10 December 2005

Went to the kino for the first time in a while, but as I was coming out I spotted a poster[1] for Lassie.

Have you taken a look? See those ears, one half-cocked, the other standing up straight. What the hell is up with that? I mean, the whole reason that The Duke buys Lassie from the family is because she is a perfect example of the breed. And the breed standard is very specific as to ears:

Small, not too close together on top of skull, nor too far apart. In repose carried thrown back, but on alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, that is, with approximately two-thirds of ear standing erect, top third tipping forward naturally, below horizontal.

It used even be the case that the white blaze on the face wasn’t looked upon with favour, but since the tv programmes and films it has become more an more acceptable.

The reason I know this is that we used to have a rough collie and so had a few books about the breed. She wasn’t a tricolour, as Lassie is supposed to be, but a sable as can be seen in this wikipedia picture.

Yes, this is a silly thing to complain about, but it is just so stupid

Linknotes:

  1. take a look – cause you’ll need to see it, and it is too much hassle to download and then upload
