When Judith Taverner first meets Julian St. John Audley, the fifth Earl of Worth, things do not run smoothly. So when she discovers that he is her legal guardian it isn’t exactly to her liking.
If you’ve read any of Heyer’s books you will be familiar with the type of story she writes. You’;ll know how things are going to end, you’;ll be expecting that happy ending. Yet despite this predictability these books still make for great reading. Knowing the ending doesn’t detract from the reading, because it is the characters and style of writing that is so important.
Heyer’s period writing is perfect, funny, sharp and, as far as I can tell, very much in their own time.
