Jon Snow has been a journalist since the early 70’s, but even before that he was involved in anti-apartheid demonstrations, and worked as a volunteer in Africa. This book is his personal journey as the title indicates, but it also offers an insight into the political situation that grew out of the cold war.
As you would expect from a journalist it is well-written, and easy to read. Funny in places I was never bogged down in the political stories, or overwhelmed by the details. At the same time however this book gives a great narrative history of the recent past.
