Cultural Snobs
If you speak English and watch the telly you’ll probably be aware of the phenomenon that is Harry Potter[1], and you may also be aware of the growing backlash. People giving out about HP & Rowling’s writing. I’m not talking here about religious wierdos who think the books encourage witchcraft and evil satanic practices.
those are subtle seductions, which act unnoticed and by this deeply distort Christianity in the soul, before it can grow properly”
I’ll be the first to admit that the Harry Potter books are not shining examples of literature. The prose is not perfect, Rowling’s style doesn’t make you want to quote passages from it.

Eight Legged Freaks
Dir: Ellory Elkayem
Writ: Ellory Elkayem, Randy Kornfield & Jesse Alexander
David Arquette …. Chris McCormick
Kari Wuhrer …. Sheriff Samantha Parker
Scott Terra …. Mike Parker
Scarlett Johansson …. Ashley Parker
Doug E. Doug …. Harlan Griffith
This was on the telly last night, when it came out, back in 2002, it was one I meant to watch. It looked silly but fun. Well, maybe it’d be better on the big screen with actually giant spiders. but I doubt it. Was crap.

Went to see Veronica Guerin last week. It a film based on the true story of Veronica Guerin, a journalist with the Irish Independent who was murdered in 1996 because of her investigations into organised crime in Dublin.
In the film Cate Blanchett plays Veronica and from what I could see the rest of the cast as played by Irish actors (including a wonderful cameo from Colin Farrell). Its a good film, but watching it I couldn’t help but try and compare it to what I would see as real, and obviously as a film it isn’t/wasn’t real. Still overall it was a good film, that doesn’t really take too many liberties with the truth (or at least what I think of as the truth).

I am not annoying at all. In fact most people come to me for advice. Of course they annoy the hell out of me. But what can I do? I am smarter than most people.
